Balintawak Eskrima/Arnis is the term which refers to the modern family of close quarters fighting that developed through the direct tutelage of Venancio Bacon, founder, and Grandmaster of the Balintawak Club. The primary training principle that guides Balintawak training is Cuentada. Cuentada literally translates as “to do by calculation.” In the Balintawak systems, Cuentada is what gives purpose to the various methods of Balintawak training. The specific application of the principle refers to countering an opponent’s attacks/techniques and being able to counter his counter to yours. Under the training principle, the student drills and practices to develop fast reflexes for the purpose of defense and lightning fast counters while developing an intuitive sense of of position, timing, and options.

Nickelstick Balintawak Eskrima
This course covers the COMPLETE curriculum for the first 4 levels of Nickelstick as designed by Great Grandmaster Nick Elizar and taught by Guro Jerome Teague.
Even if you have never trained in Balintawak Eskrima this course will show you, in detail, everything you need to know to become proficient in this system of self-defense.
Guro Jerome breaks down the key fundamentals with a heavy emphasis on proper body mechanics, structure and alignment. Mastery of the basics is key to utilizing this system.
This is not a flashy system, it focuses on what you need to know in order to protect yourself and loved ones. The skills you acquire training in Nickelstick Balintawak carry over to empty-hand fighting as well as knife defense. That versatility in common across most Filipino Martial Arts
Counter Blade Tactics

Phase 1: Covers essential footwork, anatomy, blade to blade defense, and countering applications while developing the necessary speed, reflexes, and understanding of how the knife can be implemented as a defensive and offensive tool. These lessons serve as the basis for the next 2 Phases of the curriculum
Phase 2: The student is taken through a progression designed to teach them to work against a knife wielding attacker with bare hands. This is one of the most difficult and dangerous aspects in any martial arts training. While it is always advised to run and acquire a weapon of your own if possible, sometimes you have to fight the fight you are in and not the one you wish you were in.
Phase 3: The student is introduced to the concept of the blade as an offensive tool, the basics of firearms, and improvised weapons. This section is reserved for in-person students who have been vetted through the training process and military/ law enforcement only.
Counter Blade Tactics
Footwork is extremely important when trying to evade a knife attack. We use practical methods to develop quick and agile footwork

Learn to defend yourself against a knife attack when you are unarmed. This covers evasion, limb and balance disruption, and disarms.

Using your blade against an attacker with a blade. Evasion, countering, disarms, and attacking vital points on the body to quickly eliminate the threat

Filipino Dirty Boxing

SUNTUKAN, also called Panantukan and Dirty Boxing, is one of many empty hands form of fighting found in the Philippines. These arts borrow heavily from western boxing going back to the late 19th Century and onward and also includes kicking, locking, and takedowns. As with all FMA, there is a great deal of overlap with the impact and bladed weaponry in both the movements of the hands, footwork, as well as core concepts such as damaging the attacking limb of the opponent (limb destructions/ defending the snake).
